Curved safety glass

sunglass industry can supply curved safety glass with maximum transparency. Regardless of whether tempered, heat-strengthened, laminated or laminated safety glass, we can supply high-quality curved glass to comply with the safety stipulations of any application.

Besides unsurpassed stability and loadbearing capacity, sunglass industry can supply panes of glass with unconventional geometry for structures designed to meet the strictest safety requirements, e.g. façade glazing, glass domes, overhead glazing, glass balustrades.

Curved tempered glass

Thermally toughened tempered glass from sunglass industry is a product meeting a higher safety standard. Curved tempered glass resists impacts, blows, bending stresses and thermal loads.

Owing to the altered breakage characteristics (blunt fragments), tempered glass is suitable for further processing to form laminated safety glass and hence for use in façades. With its exceptional formats, high-quality edges, low anisotropy and few roller waves, tempered glass from sunglass industry is a premium product.

Curved heat-strengthened glass

sunglass industry can supply curved heat-strengthened glass in virtually any shape with bending angles of up to 105°. Curved heat-strengthened glass from sunglass industry combines function and design. Such panes are available in ultra-transparent or printed forms depending on the architect’s design, and with optional coating for solar-control and thermal insulation purposes without any restrictions on the characteristic properties of safety glass: resistance to impacts and blows.

Depending on the shape, the curved glass is treated either thermally or chemically to increase the bending strength and thermal shock resistance of the curved pane.

Thermal toughening for repeat panes

Bending and thermal toughening take place in one plant. This involves heating up the flat pane and “rolling” it to a curved shape on a bed of rollers before carrying out the thermal toughening. This time-saving method is used for cylindrical (concave/convex), double-curvature and other bent forms of heat-strengthened glass. Really beneficial are the outstanding optical quality, low anisotropy and few roller waves of this type of curved glass.

Curved chemically strengthened glass

Resistance to impacts and blows is available for gravity bent glass, too. The curved panes are chemically treated to increase the bending strength and thermal shock resistance.

Chemical toughening for unconventional formats

Chemical strengthening is used for curved glass panes with a special geometry. The bent panes in cylindrical, J-shaped, conical, spherical, toroidal, double-curvature and free-form shapes are immersed  and strengthened in a potassium salt bath. Toughening takes place via the exchange of ions between the salt bath and the surface of the glass. Sodium irons are exchanged for potassium ions and that increases the strength of the glass.

Curved laminated safety glass

Curved laminated and curved laminated safety glass is suitable for all applications where maximum safety is required. Laminated safety glass consists of panes bent in pairs which are bonded together with tear-resistant, transparent, coloured or translucent PVB foils.

Such laminates can be used to produce glazing resistant to thrown objects, manual attack or bullets. If the glass is broken, the fragments adhere to the foil and guarantee a certain residual load-carrying capacity. Laminated safety glass is therefore ideal for façades, overhead glazing and balustrades.
